Agri-Trend Agrology Announces Sr. Agri-Coach and Agri-Coach of the Year!

Dr. Ieuan Evans, P.Ag. & Senior Agri-Coach™ Pathologist,irologist & Horticulturalist
Dr. Evans’ undergraduate work in chemistry and soil science was done at the University of Wales with his graduate and Ph.D. being granted at the University of Florida. He has been involved in projects throughout North America, including a5 ½ year term as faculty member and assistant professor at the University of Guelph.
In Western Canadahe became known by some as “Dr. Copper” for being one of the first tostudy, document, and publicize the relationship of copper nutrition onreducing ergot, frost bran, melanosis and lodging in cereals. Hisresearch papers document the early work done on dual purpose seedtreatments, sclerotina and alternaria controls in canola, influence ofsulphur nutrition on crop health, and he played an instrumental role inresolving the bacterial ring rot issue in seed potato production in Canada.
Ieuanhas adopted a strong pro-active approach to solving problems faced bytoday’s farmers. He incepted, developed and implemented black leg,bacterial ring rot and dutch elm disease control protocols, and mostrecently is involved in the fusarium head blight program. He is anexpert plant disease photographer and is a hard-hitting, yet humorouskey note speaker that is extremely well received by farm and industryaudiences.
Ieuanis also well known nationally and internationally for his love ofhorticulture, is a grand champion lily breeder, and is the developer ofthe popular “Evans Cherry”.
Phil Thomas, M.Sc., P.Ag. & Senior Agri-Coach™ Plant Breeding, Oil Seeds & Diagnostics Specialist
Phil Thomas, is highly recognized in western Canadaby agri-businesses, farmers, researchers, oilseed crushersandexporters for his extensive technical knowledge on all aspects ofoilseed crop production. Phil has possibly walked through more fieldsof canola in his career than any other individual, and applies thatexperience to advising the Agri-Coaches and their clients throughoutthe year.
Phil first graduated from Olds College, and then went on to receive his B.Sc. in Agriculture as well as his Masters in Plant Breeding from the University of Alberta.
UntilAugust 2001, Mr. Thomas served as the Provincial Oilseed Specialistwith Alberta Agriculture and was responsible for the development andimplementation of research and technology transfer programs in oilseedproduction. This involved advising the oilseed industry (producers,researchers, processors, commodity groups, and government) on oilseedproduction. His experience is internationally recognized. He hasserved as a consultant for: CIDA projects in India; the North American Trade Express Inc. in Sri Lanka; Mitsubishi in China, and the Rockefeller Foundation & White Eagle Industries in Poland. Recently, Phil was also awarded the Dunhuang Award in China for his contributions to advancing the canola industry there.
