    Agri-Trend Agrology Welcomes Richard Limoges, P.Ag., CCA as new Agri-Coach

    Richard joined the Agri-Trend Network in the fall of 2008, and is looking forward to providing agronomic services to producers in the Smoky River area of the Peace Country. He grew up in this area, and was actively involved in annual crop production, pedigreed seed production, and forage production. He has a very good understanding of the risks and challenges faced by producers in the industry today.

    Richard has also obtained a diploma in Ag Business from Olds College in 2002, his degree in Range and Pasture Management from the U of Alberta in 2005, and both his CCA and P.Ag in 2008. Prior to becoming an Agri-Coach™, he was employed by Agricore United (now Viterra) as a sales agronomist, where he also gained experience in grain buying.

    Richard joined the Agri-Trend Network for access to the knowledge, ideas, and resources that they offer. The focus of his business will be strategic crop planning and in-season agronomy services. He looks forward to helping his clients optimize production and improve their bottom lines.

    Agri-Trend Agrology Welcomes Kyle Bergen as new Agri-Coach

    Kyle grew up in Drake, Saskatchewan where he was involved with the family farm. He attended the University of Saskatchewan in 2005 and received his Diploma in Agriculture. After university he returned to the family farm where he continues to be involved in the areas of production. His experiences on the farm have helped him to fully understand the challenges facing producers.
    Kyle is looking forward to working with the team from Agri-Trend and Blair’s Fertilizer. Through his passion for agriculture and the Agri-Trend network, Kyle is looking forward to bringing value, new ideas and sound agronomic advice to his clients.

    Agri-Trend Agrology Welcomes Jill DeMulder as new Research & Logistics Coordinator
    After obtaining her BSc in Agriculture at the University of Alberta, Jill worked for Alberta Agriculture for 24 years, primarily in their agronomic research program.  Her role started with providing technical expertise and grew to providing both strategic and operational leadership for numerous research projects; their development, implementation and evaluation.  During her time with Alberta Agriculture, she worked with many of the Senior Agri-Coaches™ on their many research and extension projects as well as projects with researchers from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, University of Alberta and Alberta Research Council.  Research topics have ranged from fertility and fertilizer placement, disease and insect management, optimizing yields and quality, micronutrients, herbicide tolerance and new crop adaptation. She has co-authored and edited numerous research papers and final reports.    Jill also lead teams responsible for organizing the original Agronomy Updates and contributed to the initiation, development and success of the Diagnostic Field School from its beginning in 1989. 

    Her career in agriculture began with Dr. Ieuan Evans where she was responsible for coordinating the province-wide potato bacterial ring rot and other crop disease programs. This ultimately led her to take on the operations management of Alberta Agriculture’s Crop Diversification Centre North, a 340 acre research facility in northeast Edmonton.  As well, she provided project management for the nationwide Canadian Triticale Biorefinery Initiative and assisted in writing the proposal for CTBI that recently received $18M in federal funding.  Jill managed the central Alberta research sites for this project and several other research projects led by Dr. Ross McKenzie

    Agri-Trend Agrology Welcomes Dr. Geza Racz P.Ag, B.S.A., as Senior Agri-Coach

     Dr. Racz is available as support for clients through their Agri-Coach.

    dr getza racz.jpgDr. Geza Racz brings over 40 years of experience to Agri-Trend Agrology Ltd. He was born in Saskatchewan and grew up on a mixed farm. Dr. Racz obtained a B.S.A. degree in 1959 with a major in soil science and a M. Sc. Degree in 1961 in soil chemistry and fertility at the University of Saskatchewan. He joined the department of Soil Sciences, University of Manitoba as a research assistant in 1961 to study the fertility requirements of special crops and initiated Ph. D. studies shortly thereafter at the University of Manitoba completing a PhD degree in 1966 in soil chemistry.

    Dr. Racz’ research centers on the fate and bioavailability of heavy metals in biosolids and other soil amendments along with determining the composition of animal manures and sustainable management and land application of animal manures. His findings are published in scientific journals as well as in conference proceedings and extension articles.

    Dr. Racz is pleased to join Agri-Trend Agrology Ltd. To provide expertise in soil fertility and chemistry and management of animal manures and sewage biosolids in various cropping systems.

    Agri-Trend Agrology Announces Sr. Agri-Coach and Agri-Coach of the Year!

    Agri-Trend Agrology is pleased to announce Dr. Ieuan Evans and Phil Thomas BOTH received the Senior Agri-Coach of the Year award.  Both gentlemen were awarded their plaques at the November 2007 Farm Forum Event. A big congratulations to you both!

    Dr. Ieuan Evans, P.Ag. & Senior Agri-Coach™ Pathologist,irologist & Horticulturalist

    Dr. Evans’ undergraduate work in chemistry and soil science was done at the University of Wales with his graduate and Ph.D. being granted at the University of Florida. He has been involved in projects throughout North America, including a5 ½ year term as faculty member and assistant professor at the University of Guelph.

    In Western Canadahe became known by some as “Dr. Copper” for being one of the first tostudy, document, and publicize the relationship of copper nutrition onreducing ergot, frost bran, melanosis and lodging in cereals.  Hisresearch papers document the early work done on dual purpose seedtreatments, sclerotina and alternaria controls in canola, influence ofsulphur nutrition on crop health, and he played an instrumental role inresolving the bacterial ring rot issue in seed potato production in Canada.

    Ieuanhas adopted a strong pro-active approach to solving problems faced bytoday’s farmers. He incepted, developed and implemented black leg,bacterial ring rot and dutch elm disease control protocols, and mostrecently is involved in the fusarium head blight program.  He is anexpert plant disease photographer and is a hard-hitting, yet humorouskey note speaker that is extremely well received by farm and industryaudiences.

    Ieuanis also well known nationally and internationally for his love ofhorticulture, is a grand champion lily breeder, and is the developer ofthe popular “Evans Cherry”.

    Phil Thomas, M.Sc., P.Ag. & Senior Agri-Coach™ Plant Breeding,  Oil Seeds & Diagnostics Specialist

    Phil Thomas, is highly recognized in western Canadaby agri-businesses, farmers, researchers, oilseed crushersandexporters for his extensive technical knowledge on all aspects ofoilseed crop production.  Phil has possibly walked through more fieldsof canola in his career than any other individual, and applies thatexperience to advising the Agri-Coaches and their clients throughoutthe year.

    Phil first graduated from Olds College, and then went on to receive his B.Sc. in Agriculture as well as his Masters in Plant Breeding from the University of Alberta.

    UntilAugust 2001, Mr. Thomas served as the Provincial Oilseed Specialistwith Alberta Agriculture and was responsible for the development andimplementation of research and technology transfer programs in oilseedproduction.  This involved advising the oilseed industry (producers,researchers, processors, commodity groups, and government) on oilseedproduction.  His experience is internationally recognized.  He hasserved as a consultant for: CIDA projects in India; the North American Trade Express Inc. in Sri Lanka; Mitsubishi in China, and the Rockefeller Foundation & White Eagle Industries in Poland.  Recently, Phil was also awarded the Dunhuang Award in China for his contributions to advancing the canola industry there.
