AGRI-TREND® is pleased to welcome new AGRI-TREND® Remote Sensing & GIS Specialist, Viviane Faria based in Calgary, AB to our growing Network!
Viviane has an MSc in Remote Sensing from the National Institute of Space Research, a governmental organization in Brazil whose focus is scientific research and technological applications in the fields of space and atmospheric sciences. INPE is also responsible for developing and operating earth observation satellites. She has worked in the Earth Observation Research Department for 9 years, having participated of numerous Remote Sensing related projects. In 2005, she enrolled in the Remote Sensing master’s program at INPE and became Researcher Assistant. Her work focused in crop yield prediction, using agro meteorological models, GIS and Remote Sensing, to provide the bases and guidance for the Governmental Policy in the Agribusiness. Among the projects she was involved the following can be cited: Monitoring of Sugarcane Manual Harvest to support the Environmental Protocol Project; Green ethanol (control of greenhouse emission related to the burning of sugarcane residues); Urban Growth Monitoring Using Remote Sensing and GIS; Geotechnology for the Identification and Mapping of Coffee Agroecosystems in the State of Minas Gerais; Use of Remote Sensing and Geoprocessing to Estimate Sugarcane Crop Area through Techniques of Statistical Sampling System. She has extensive knowledge in mapping agricultural crop areas (e.g., coffee, sugar cane), Vegetation Index Analysis, Atmospheric Correction of Optical Satellite Imagery, Spectral Characterization Analysis and interpolation of Meteorological and Geomorphometric variables. She has also published her work in Brazilian scientific journals and symposiums. She moved to Canada in December 2010 and has currently joined the AGRI-TREND Team as Senior GIS Coach in Calgary.
